Meet me

I'm a mixed media artist living in the North East of England. I grew up in Mexico City, and these days Newcastle is home.

I started painting because of my grandmother. She found painting later in life, in an art class, and I watched how much life and joy it gave her.

Colour is at the centre of everything I make. Mexico City gave me an eye for it, and it's followed me everywhere since

Whatever the subject, I'm after the same thing: the way light and colour can change how a moment feels. Sometimes that's a sunset, sometimes a landscape or flowers, now and then a portrait. My work leans impressionistic, built up in colour and texture, sometimes with thick oil paint. It usually starts with just noticing something and watching how the light and shadow fall. What I love most is showing people the way I see things.

I exhibit around Newcastle, including my solo show Fragments at BottleWorks in Ouseburn, and my paintings have found homes across the UK and beyond. A selection of my originals, prints and postcards is available through the site, and I take commissions, so if there's a place, a moment or a feeling you'd like painted, ask me.

I also run Pause & Paint, relaxed painting sessions here in Newcastle.

I'm currently working towards Beyond Trees, my next exhibition at BottleWorks this November.

Have a look around. I'd love to hear from you.

Carolina.
